TORCH infection, also known as TORCH syndrome, refers to a group of infections that can affect a developing fetus or newborn either during pregnancy, at birth, or after delivery. The term TORCH is an acronym representing a group of infectious agents:
Toxoplasma gondii
Others (e.g., syphilis, varicella, HIV)
Rubella
Cytomegalovirus (CMV)

TORCH infections account for approximately 2–3% of all congenital anomalies or birth-related disorders. These infections can cause serious complications such as preterm birth, intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR), physical abnormalities (e.g., hearing loss, patent ductus arteriosus), and in some cases, pregnancy loss.
