How to Prepare for a General Stool (Coprological) Analysis?

  • Do not use cleansing or medicinal enemas, laxatives, activated charcoal, iron (Fe), copper (Cu), bismuth (Bi) preparations, or rectal suppositories containing oils before collecting the sample.

  • The sample must be collected at least 2 days after a colonoscopy or gastrointestinal X-ray examination.

  • Contamination with urine or menstrual blood is strictly prohibited.

  • The stool sample must be collected in a disposable, sterile, and tightly sealed container.

  • Prevent contact with urine or external genital secretions.

  • After collection, the sample should be delivered to the clinic within 2 hours.

    • In cold weather: if delivery is delayed (but not exceeding 8 hours), the sample can be stored in a cool place.

    • In warm weather: store in a refrigerator at +4 to +8 °C.

    • In both cases, the exact time of collection must be indicated.

  • For helminth (worm) detection, the stool sample must be delivered within 2 hours.

  • For worm detection, it is recommended to repeat the test 3 times at 1–2 day intervals.

  • For amebiasis diagnosis, it is recommended to test up to 6 times.
