How to Prepare for a Spermogram Analysis?

A spermogram is a diagnostic test used to evaluate male fertility by analyzing the ejaculate.

This analysis determines various qualitative, quantitative, and morphological parameters, including:

  • Volume, color, and pH of the ejaculate

  • Sperm count per milliliter

  • Percentage of normal vs. abnormal sperm forms

Important Preparation Instructions:

  • The sample must be collected via masturbation.

  • Ideally, the analysis should be performed on-site at the clinic.

  • If collected at home, the sample must be:

    • placed in a sterile container,

    • delivered to the clinic within 15 minutes of collection.

  • Abstinence from sexual activity is required for 3 to 7 days before the test.

  • Avoid alcohol and heat exposure (e.g., saunas) during this period.

  • Do not smoke on the day of the test.

  • If you are on medication, consult your doctor — the test should be scheduled accordingly.
