What Causes Acne?
During puberty, both boys and girls begin producing male sex hormones (androgens). These hormones stimulate the sebaceous glands to secrete more oil (sebum). This excess oil creates a nourishing environment for bacteria to grow. As a result, acne often appears during adolescence but usually clears up by the end of puberty.
Other possible causes of acne include:
Improper or insufficient skincare
Inflammatory processes caused by microbes
Diseases of internal organs
Weakened immune system
Poor nutrition
Certain medications
Touching the face with dirty hands
Use of decorative cosmetics
Stress, etc.
If your skin is prone to acne, you can determine the underlying cause through a dermatologist’s recommendation by performing tests such as a complete blood count, free testosterone, and prolactin analysis.
